I’m tempted to say Layla, but I can’t help but think Salmissra. Layla is a trifle annoying, but Sally frustrates me for some reason. I mean I know she’s supposed to be there to make things hard, and maybe it’s because it’s around the time that Garion goes off at Pol about being heartless, but something about the Nyissan queen just grates on me :... -
Awesome! King of the Murgos is fun--love Urgit and Silk! I just reread the series from Pawn to Seeress for the first time in YEARS and I barely remembered anything, so it was like reading it for the first time all over again! Now I actually am reading Belgarath for the first time, but I'll probs have to put that on pause because classes have started and I'm suddenly swamped with like 17 other books I should simultaneously be reading. My profs don't understand that Eddings is just more important!

Ah dammit - know the feeling haha. Of course they don’t - we seem to be a dying breed haha =P -
I'm reading Belgarath for the first time now (somewhere in the middle of Vo Mimbre) and I can't possibly imagine reading it before all the others! That must have been super confusing. He always makes little asides to the characters, and references to things that have happened over the last ten books. And I can see how the various Pols would be tricky too! What made you read them in that order?

Haha I do like Vo Mimbre. Yeah it was a little stange, I managed to fill in the gaps pretty well, and I found it hilarious in Pawn where Garion says on a whim “Why don’t you marry Durnik?”
Yeah I had to pretty well ignore some of the asides, it’s like “who’s this??”.
I was talking to a friend a few years ago about what types of books we like and I think I made a sort of off-the-cuff remark about how I was out of series to read (this was before the end of Harry Potter - but in the inter-book lapse =P) and she said she’d give me a book to read and see if I like it - it was Belgarath the Sorcerer. AND IT WAS AMAZING <_< haha I’m going through my 3rd reading atm - up to King of the Murgos again!

Hi! I wanted to respond to your question about when we realize that Garion is the Rivan King, but my response was going to be too long. The first time I read the books was so long ago, but I think I more or less knew from the start, but it depends on how closely you read the prologue. The pieces are all there--descriptions of Polgara's white lock and the mark on the palm of the Rivan king, etc. Though my dad and friend are both reading for the first time now and they haven't figured it out yet!

Haha I did wonder that, because the Prologue is pretty explicit and I generally take that kind of thing at face value so I would have assumed Polgara and ‘Pol’ were the same person… Although, it confused the hell out of me when I read Belgarath the Sorcerer before the others - it took me forever to work out the difference between “Polgara”, “Poledra” and “Pol” and who on earth was being referred to at any one time! :S haha
